Ivy. It is a woody climbing plant with evergreen leaves, which grows with the support of trees, houses and other surfaces. Ivy is Gotland's province flower
Hedgehog is a terrestrial animal, as protection against predators it is covered with thorns on the upper side. It lives on insects, worms and millipedes, it is Gotland's province animal.
Roses Gotland is the Island of Roses.
Norderport, together with Österport, are the oldest towers in the ring wall. They were built around 1289. The tower has strong dimensions and thus had great defensive power. It was through Norderport that all transport from the north entered the city.
Salmberry. It thrives in coastal thickets, field edges and on clearings. Salmberry jam is something of a symbol for Gotland. According to the Gotlander, the jam should be enjoyed together with saffron pancakes and whipped cream.
Fiskeläge or a fishing village is a place on the coast with fishing as an important source of income. Fishing grounds are usually located by a natural harbor that provides protection for the boats. In addition to the fishing itself, further processing and sale of the fish often takes place in the locality. Many old fishing villages have developed into popular holiday resorts.
Tvåmänning. A boat typical of Gotland, it has two pairs of oars and two masts with a length of 18-20 feet (about 6 m) and a width of 1.5 meters. The Tvåmänning boat was used for fishing close to land and was the most common pilot boat on Gotland.
Gotland grindstones. The sandstone is today best known for its extraordinary grinding properties and the Vikings were probably the first to "export" this indispensable commodity. Huge amounts of whetstones and sharpening stones have since been produced in southern Gotland and found users in many countries.
Stalactites are icicle-like stalactites that hang from the ceiling. They are the most common form of stalactite formation in Lummelunda Cave, about 3,000 pcs. The growth rate has been estimated at 1 mm in 10 - 20 years. The stalagmites grow upwards from the substrate
Gotlandsruss is a Swedish horse breed of pony type originating on Gotland. The Gotland russet, is a very old breed that has existed on the island since the Iron Age. Today it is a popular riding pony for children and popular in pony trotting, and on Lojsta heath semi-wild Russ still live in large herds.
Sankta Maria, Visby Cathedral began to be built in the 12th century. German merchants collected money and the church building could start around the year 1175. On July 27, 1225, Linköping's bishop Bengt Magnusson consecrated the church in honor of the St. Mary, hence the name.
Lambgift is a building on Gotland and Fårö for outdoor sheep. It is particularly distinctive for Fårö, and is usually constructed of wood with a steep gable roof and a loft where fodder can be stored. They were mainly used in the past to provide shelter for the sheep that grazed outdoors throughout the year
The Gute sheep is one of the two indigenous sheep breeds on Gotland, both of which are descended from the Gotland sheep. The other is the Gotland sheep.
Stone cross. On Gotland there are several stone crosses from the Middle Ages
Rauker at Holmhällar. Of all the rauk areas on Gotland, the one in Holmhällar nature reserve is one of the most worth visiting. The Rauk area runs in an arc between Skarpvik and Holm's fishing village and is about one kilometer long and in places 40 meters wide. Many of the rauks at Holmhällar are large and strangely designed. They come as arches and portals, on the beach and in the water.
