Spruce is a fast-growing evergreen coniferous tree growing 35–55 m tall and with a trunk diameter of 1 to 1.5 m. It can grow fast when young, up to 1 m per year for the first 25 years under good conditions, but becomes slower once over 20 m tall
Mounitain hare. It is Medelpad's province animal, It changes its coat twice a year, it is brownish gray in summer and white in winter but the tips of the ears are always black.
Hotel Knaust is centrally located on Storgatan in Sundsvall and is widely known for its fantastic marble staircase. The stairs are built of white carrara marble from Italy.
The blast furnace in Galtström is Medelpad's oldest and largest iron mill. The mill was founded in 1673. Bar iron, iron stoves and nails have been manufactured at the mill, among other things.
Svartvik's bowling alley The game of bowling is several thousand years old. It came to Sweden in the 16th century and became popular in the Norrland upperclass in the middle of the 19th century. A bowling alley was built in Svartvik in the 1850s.
Liden's old church was built in the end of the 14th century. In the church there are sculptures from the 13th century.
The black rampion, is a relatively rare species of plant it is located in central to northern Europe, and primarily concentrated in Scandinavia As early as 1905, the existence of the plant was discovered and it grows abundantly within an approximately half-hectare moist meadow area. As it is quite unique in Sweden, it has become something of a symbol for Stöde parish.
The carousel pavilion. Is probably what made Österström most famous nowadays. Inspector Pettersson who worked at Heffnersbolaget in Östanbäck and his son decided to build a pavilion that spins like a carousel in 1877 to impress their well-off neighbors.
Timber. The forest industry has been one of Meelpads most important sources of income. At the end of the 19th century, the Sundsvall coast was the world's densest sawmill area.
Fishing house in Aldern. The house was built in the middle of the stream to lead the fish in there and thus be easier to catch. The house was used between about 1870 and 1960. The fish caught were salmon, trout and eel.
Flataklocken. Sweden's geographical center
Gudmundstjärn. Deep in the Norrland forest lies the home dating back to the 18th century. Gudmundstjärn is a well-preserved forest farm. Here you will find a beautiful farm environment with a dwelling house, barn, baker's hut, wood chipper, forge and water saw.
The Vikbron in Fränsta is Sweden's longest wooden bridge of its kind. Its beautiful wooden construction spans 133 meters over the shiny waters of Ljungan.
Skvader is a fantasy animal with the front of a hare and the back of a capercaillie. The skvader has its origins in a hunting story, originally told by Håkan Dahlmark, a rafting inspector in Medelpad.
