The white water lily is the province flower of Södermanland and the largest flower of the Nordic flora. The Latin name refers to a Greek legend where a nymph died of heartbreak after unrequited love for Hercules and turned into a white water lily.
Osprey. The osprey thrives like the white water lily in all the lakes of Södermanland. It hibernates in West Africa. The osprey feeds only on fish.
Sorunda cake. The cake's recipe is a secret. The recipes and garnish patterns are inherited within the family. It is served on festive occasions and the garnish follows the day to be celebrated. The cake has been documented since the middle of the 19th century.
St. Botvid's Church. The church was built in 1957 in Oxelösund. The municipality of Oxelösund consists largely of the sea, and it is therefore natural that the church is also reminiscent of the sea. On a high cliff you will find the church, which is a landmark for sailors.
The car museum at Sparreholm Castle has one of Europe's finest collections of vintage cars, e.g. the Cadillac that King Gustav V had when he went off the road at "Kungens kurva"
Södertälje pretzel. Södertälje is known for many different things, but the pretzels is the most famous. They were initially sold at the station to the travelers.
Ettan's ugn. Ettan’s oven. Via a cable ferry from Mörkö you will get to the island of Oaxen with rich deposits of limestone which have been mined since the 19th century The mining is now closed.
Harpsund. The famous rowing boat has had many prominent guests. Harpsund was built in 1914 and bequeathed to the state in 1953 as a recreational residence for the Prime Minister of Sweden. Many discussions have been held here with representatives of business and the ministers of many countries.
Hörningholm Castle. The castle has been owned by the Bonde family since the 18th century. The castle was designed by Carl Håleman.
Rademacher forge. In Eskilstuna, there is this forge which, among other things, has produced knives, scissors, needles, nails, locks, guns and tools.
At Julita Gård there are, among other things, gene banks for apples and pears. Arthur Bäckström bequeathed the farm to the Nordic Museum in 1944.
Landsort lighthouse. Landsort has Sweden's oldest lighthouse, more than 300 years old. The current lighthouse was built in 1969-70.
Dalarö fortress. The fortress is from the middle of the 17th century and has been used by the military for about 200 years.
Tumba Bruk was the printing company responsible for the manufacturing of the Swedish krona banknotes. The company was founded by Sveriges Riksbank in 1755 to produceBanknotes, making it the world's oldest factory of its kind.
